This year I’m making it a goal to get a better nights sleep, even in times of stress. I’m learning to wind down properly, give my mind a break and let my body ease into a restful slumber. Here are some of the things that have helped me & you should totally give them a try!
Take a relaxing bath in the evening.
I go all out for my baths, candles with the lights out, crystals, a diffuser pumping a sleepy scent (I have a diffuser like this and take it with me when I travel!) like lavender and sometimes a book (reading makes me tired). If I don’t feel like reading I will even listen to a chill podcast/recording or some music with headphones. One of my favourite things to listen to is Liana Shanti’s weekly illuminations. Check her out, it’s totally worth the $20/month subscription. Orrr, if music is more your thing, the Lo-Fi Beats playlist on Spotify is sooo good!
I came across a product that Kourtney Kardashian’s company, Poosh, collaborated on and decided to give it a try. It’s a collagen latte by Vital Proteins, called Pink Moon Milk, that is meant to be taken at night and has magnesium & melatonin in it. It’s strawberry flavoured and tastes like a treat - I love it so much and just ordered more! I also take a magnesium capsule at night. Within a hour my eyes feel heavy and I’m ready to cozy into bed. Supplements are different for everyone though & chat with your doctor before taking them. This is just what works for me.
Splurge On The Accessories
I have a silk pillow case and eye mask. I know it seems boujie, but they feel spa like and luxurious - I’m always a pile of jello after a spa appointment, so I’ll emulate that a bit if I can. Plus, they’re so much better for your skin and hair.
Get The Fancy Alarm Clock
Last year I bought the Phillips Somneo Sleep & Wake Alarm Clock and it was totally worth the money. The light imitates the sun and has sounds that are so relaxing. At night I use the sunset setting and fall asleep to sounds of the ocean. In the morning the light slowly brightens and wakes you up gradually with soothing sounds - I love it so much.
Alter Phone time
Ok, I knoooow we all know that we should limit our phone time before bed, but sometimes you just can’t resist right? The Skinny Confidential just did some posts about switching your screen to a red colour filter (iPhone) and it actually is really nice.
Here’s how to do it:
General > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Colour Filters.
Move the cursor for HUE all the way to the left, then adjust the Intensity. I have mine about 3/4 to the right.
Then leave the filter on and exit back to the Accessibility page and scroll to Accessibility Shortcut > click colour filters.
Now you can turn the colour filter on and off with your side button :)
